Improving Socio Economic Condition of Rural Farmers through Sustainable Organic Agriculture Development in Gumla District of Jharkhand

A two-year proposed piolet project during the year 2024–2026 with the support of MANOS UNIDAS in Chainpur and Raidih block of Gumla district implemented in 10 villages, 9 villages from Chainpur and 1 village from Raidih block with 500 farmers under Arouse Extension Tongo in Kating panchayat.

These villages are located in undulating plateau regions with mixed forests, red and lateritic soils, and a semi-tropical climate with moderate rainfall.

The terrain and climatic conditions are suitable for vegetable cultivation, livestock systems, and diversified organic farming practices.

Aims

Implementing advanced organic agricultural practices, livestock management, improving local resources, improve the overall socio-economic status of rural farmers empowering food security of the people.

Goal

Developing sustainable livelihood opportunities for 500 families in 10 villages of Gumla District, Jharkhand, India.

Specific Objective

To enable 500 farmers to adopt new farming methods through mobilizing, organizing, training and capacity building programmes and exposure visits to gain knowledge of successful models and practices there by helping them to practice in their own villages and empowering them to tap the resources by the government and non – government agencies to their socio economic development.

Major Activities Conducted

During the project period, farmers were mobilized into Jaivik Kisan Samuh (JKS) groups and women Self Help Groups (SHGs) were strengthened through leadership training, regular meetings and financial discipline. Several capacity building programmes were organized on SRI paddy cultivation, five-layer vegetable cultivation, vermicompost preparation, organic pesticide preparation, soil testing, seed banking, animal husbandry and market linkage.
